Part of you

Denna dikt skrev jag 12 september 2001, alltså dagen efter terrordådet i USA; 9/11. Jag var lika chockad som resten av världen över vad som hade hänt och jag undrade ”Vad kommer att hända nu? Hur möter USA och resten av västvärlden detta fruktansvärda? Ska de hämnas, ge igen – och sedan?” Plötsligt stod det så klart för mig hur vi människor måste göra – Inse att vi alla är del av varandra och att vi måste läka oss själva för att kunna läka världen.

I saw the girl just lying there
under tons of concrete blocks
While her blood and time
were running out,
I begged:
”World, please stop the clocks!”
I knew her fear
the blood and tears
Nothing could I do
but to hold her hand against
my heart
“I’m here. I’m part of you.”

I saw the man who threw the bomb
Black eyes born out of hate
A single word went through
my mind
as I clenched my fists:
”Wait ! Wait!”
I know those eyes
I’ve seen that rage
My mirror’s seen it too
Though much ashamed
I told the man:
”I am part of you”

I saw the King declaring War
while all his princes cheered
I felt the smell of
sweet revenge
and the spite I’ve always feared
Then an image flashed before
my eyes:
A child out of the blue
The boy dressed as the enemy
said:
”I am part of you”

I saw the note upon the wall:
”Please take this pain away”
So I wiped my tears to
try to help
to seize another day
Perhaps it’s true
that we are One
-if I heal
the world heals too
Cause you, my friend
are part of me
And I am part of you
